On 20 April 2016 in Bishkek the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic Danielle Meuwly Monteleone will award certificates worth 1 million soms each to the representatives of 17 municipalities of the Chui Province.

This support has been provided within the framework of the Swiss funded project "Voice of Citizens and Accountability of Local Self-Government: Budget Process" project and implemented by the local NGO “Development Policy Institute”.

The financial support will be allocated to the following municipalities selected on a competitive basis:

“Switzerland has been providing financial assistance to this project since 2011”, says the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in the Kyrgyz Republic Danielle Meuwly Monteleone. “We expect that with our support the municipalities will solve problems such as lack of clean drinking water, waste management, poor conditions in schools, etc. and improve the living conditions of people in their communities”.

The goal of the project is to help local self-governments to manage public finances in a more transparent and effective way, with a greater accountability and citizen participation in decision-making processes. Also it includes competitive grant support for addressing priority issues in local communities.

Earlier the project has been implemented in municipalities of Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul provinces. Today it is working in the Chui province and will continue its work in Naryn and Osh provinces.
