The Government of Switzerland will support development of local self-government in Chui oblast

Heads of more than 100 ayil aimaks of Chui oblast will receive new opportunities for development and improvement of investment management skills during two years.

Heads of more than 100 ayil aimaks of Chui oblast will receive new opportunities for development and improvement of investment management skills during two years.

15 May 2015 in Bishkek an official presentation of “Voice of Citizens and Accountability of LSG: Budget Process” Project implemented by Development Policy Institute with financial support of the Swiss Government will be held.

The presentation will be attended by representatives of the Government Apparatus of the Kyrgyz Republic, State Agency for LSG and Interethnic Relations under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, Embassy of Switzerland, donor agencies and local organizations, mass media, heads of all rural and urban municipalities of Chui oblast. The heads of LSGs of Chui oblast will consider issues of local self-government development in Kyrgyzstan and receive information about the opportunities of collaboration with the Project.

The implementation of the Project is divided in several phases: Phase I was implemented in the municipalities of Jalal-Abad and Issyk-Kul oblasts from April 2012 till March 2015, Phase II will cover the municipalities of Chui oblast from April 2015 till March 2017, later LSGs of Naryn and Osh oblasts will join them.

The Project is aimed at improving citizens’ engagement in budget process at local level, creation of enabling environment for building dialogue between the citizens and bodies of local self-government, taking into account the needs of population in the process of decision making at local level.

Technical assistance will be provided to LSGs, including competitive grant support for addressing priority issues. Specific feature of the grant support is that the program serves as an “investment excerciser” helping LSGs improve skills to manage investments from the local budget.

The presentation will be held on 15 May 2015 in “City Hotel” located at the following address: 34, Baytik Baatyr Street, Bishkek. The event will start at 9:30.
